Karol Beffa was awarded first at the Ecole Normale Supérieure but also received first at the Music Aggregation. He is now leading a double career.

On the one hand, he graduated from ENSAE as an engineer statistician and in 2003 obtained a doctorate in musicology from EHESS by supporting a doctoral thesis on György Ligeti's Piano Studies. In November 2015, he supports a habilitation to direct research. He teaches at the University of Paris IV, then at the École Polytechnique and is a lecturer at ENS.

On the other hand, in 2000, he was selected to represent France at the Biennial of Young Artists of Turin. He is the youngest French composer played at the "Présences" festival. Between 2006 and 2009, he is composer in residence with the Orchester national de Toulouse. On this occasion, he composed Paradis Artificial, for orchestra wood by three, a first Violin Concerto (created by Renaud Capuçon and commissioned at his instigation) and a first Piano Concerto (created by Boris Berezovski and commissioned at his instigation).

In 2012, the Collège de France elected him to the chair of artistic creation, he is the youngest holder. He also writes many books including Comment parler musique. In 2013, he is composer of the year at the Victoires de la musique classique. In 2016, he won the Composer's Grand Prix Lycée and the prize awarded by the music teachers of the same competition. In 2017, he won the SACEM Symphony Grand Prix for his entire career and, in 2018, he was again Composer of the Year at the Victoires de la Musique Classique.
