Spencer Burton - The Mountain Man (2019)

Toronto, ON (August 14, 2019) – Singer, songwriter, storyteller, troubadour. Just a few of the words that can be used to describe Spencer Burton, who today, is pleased to announce his latest project “The Mountain Man”, available October 4th via Dine Alone Records. Burton’s first foray into children’s music, “The Mountain Man” contains seven kid-friendly tracks, capturing the nostalgia of childhood while remaining true to his laid back melodic roots, to create a record that can be enjoyed by all ages. Available digitally today is the title-track single “The Mountain Man”, which Burton wrote as an ode to the power and beauty of nature, “in hopes of showing the children of today that true riches are found in self-worth, and not in how much money one has.”

“The album itself as a whole wasn’t originally written for the public ear,” say Burton, a father of two. “I simply wrote these songs for my own children, something for them to sing along to as I played the guitar. I wrote songs that they wanted to hear with words that I thought they should hear; songs filled with morals and good messages. The kind folks at Dine Alone Records got wind that I had written children’s songs and they wanted to hear them. One thing led to another and now, because of them, the music will reach more children’s ears than just my own.”

Thoughtful lyricism, gifted storytelling and engaging messaging are all part of Burton’s charm, and have been a mainstay across his career. Burton last released a record in 2017, the intimate and “highly compelling” (Exclaim!) solo project “Songs Of”, but his versatility spans a musical life with hard core beginnings in Attack In Black, the somber strings of his acoustic guitar in the country-folk of Grey Kingdom, his collaborative years of writing and performing live in City and Colour and beyond.
