Personnel:
Kellie Rucker: Vocal, Harmonica
JJ Holiday: Guitar
Michael Barsimanto: Drums
Dal Martino: Bass
Just the name of JJ Holiday, guitarist of the Imperial Crowns, is enough to be convinced that we will be entitled to something big! But there is not only JJ on this record, because it is a new trio in the world of the blue music which arrives, and with a crash. A trio composed of JJ Holiday on guitars, Kellie Rucker on vocals and harmo, and Michael Barsimento on drums.
Kellie Rucker collaborated with the great Debbie Davies and BB Chung King & The Buddaheads, while Michael Barsimanto worked with Keith Emerson, Andy Summers and Ivan Neville, among others. It can never be said enough that chance is fully part of life, and others will tell you that chance does not exist. It's because a plane did not leave on time that Rocky Athas did not join John Mayall and that the latter finally decided to continue to perform in trio, and that's because he was impossible for JJ Holiday to momentarily shoot with the Crowns that he took the opportunity to make demos with other zykos. And we have here between the ears the result of their brilliant collaboration. The voice of the Miss with the "annielennoxien" devilishly charismatic look is made to sing this music, it's undeniable, and the harmo punctuates all this in a "bluesy" persuasive way, while the drummer impels a rhythm that fits perfectly guitar chords and vocal intonations.
In guests, we have Keith Karman on bass and Joe Sublett on saxophone on "In The Meantime". Soul Return, a nugget with all facets oozing Californian Blues and especially that of Los Angeles that merges superbly Rock'N'Roll, Blues and Blues Rock, swaying you with the face 12 explosive charges that will lead you from surprise to surprise ! To summarize the case, let's take the heart of the motto "Good Music played by Good People". Nothing more. ~Dominique Boulay
