"Taurus" Drum Programming
Formed in 1977 by Martin Scheffer and Rob Spierenburg. They released their first album in 1981 (Illusions Of A Night) that is succesfully re-released in 1989 in Japan. In this early period are some changes in the occupation: Spierenburg, Scheffer and Tears Berg, the group founded in 1977 and is drummer Dennis Plantenga (who previously had played in Ice) strengthen the group.
Piet Tears Berg disappears at the end of 1979. Theo de Jong (ex-Kayak), his replacement, but that is only short-lived: De Jong leaves quickly back to Scope and Jos Schild is beginning to be used as new bassist.
Taurus wanted at this time as a symphonic band album.
In Phonogram, a contract was signed with Corduroy productions (Cor Aaftink and Roy Beltman, among others responsible for BZN and Finch). The requirement was that first single was released. "Meadow" is displayed in 1980 and was originally a composition of more than seven minutes. Despite reasonable airplay took just the tip of the single non-parade. When Corduroy demanded that the album first half were single, decided TAURUS the contract itself to say and moved on to April Music / CBS in 1981 for the album: "Illusions of a night" to it.
Meanwhile the group also has a new drummer: Rex Stulp The debut album of the group "Illusions of a night" from 1981. That album would penetrate into Japan and the group so well known that there is more work Taurus was asked.
The occupation of Taurus remains subject to change. The recently appointed REX STULPE but remains short: the end of 1981, he was replaced by Kees Wassenaar. In the following year Martin Scheffer singer leaves the group. He is succeeded by ex-singer John Philippo from Sphinx.
Especially at the request of many fans who appears Taurus has built in 1983 another album: "Live Tapes" contains live recordings from the years 1979-1982. The sales results fall against and the group is set.
Until 1983 the band had a real live reputation. The band attracted by the country in a coach bus with the big Taurus logo on both sides. One side of the bus was red, blue, the other side. On the front and rear were red and blue to each other in the colors of the rainbow.
Singer John Philippo, we returned to Europe in 1983, the name for the new life breathed into Kayak.
Rob Spierenburg will focus on composing music. In 1992 he debuts as a solo artist Kees Wassenaar goes to the group later Tent
TAURUS remains music publishing. In 1985, the single "So long Christi-Ann." You could say that Taurus has been re-established. Instead of sympho we can perhaps better from now on have melodic rock.
Only Willem van Eijk was not previously a member of the group, but this guitarist, who plays in Vitesse, in 1986 by a car accident along the way. Taurus is the cost for years to find a good replacement.
The success in Japan ensures that "Illusions of a night" in 1989 on CD is released. In addition appears "Works (1976-1981)", a collector of works from the years 1976-1981: former members Scheffer, Spierenburg and Tears Berg take to meet the demand from Japan to meet some old songs again. At that time, however, that gentlemen no longer part of the group.
In 1993 there appears a whole new Taurus album: "See you again", a live album with pre-existing songs. In 1994 followed by "On a journey". The last album Besides Philippo Schild and some new faces: Spike Wolters guitarist and drummer Roy Darman (ex-the shorts) make their contribution to the album.
Around the turn of the century are John Philippo, Jos Schild and Roy Darman still active as a Taurus. They are busy with a new album. In 2000, however, saves the fate as John Philippo dies.
