The Memory Screen is an environment which exists in thought and lacks any concrete or physical form. It is a space designed entirely to fit the mold of the listener. The debut album by Hapa combines ambient and bass heavy sounds which outline dimensions and create the atmosphere of the Memory Screen. Featuring artists such as, Jason Wool, Great Dane, and Noer the Boy to name a few, this abstract body of music bridges the gaps between many different styles of music. Soundscapes, experimental beats, and acid jazz are just a few of the shapes this piece takes while maintaining a cohesive dark hip-hop backbone.
The inspiration behind the name “Memory Screen” comes from skateboard brand Alien Workshop's 1991 skate/art film by the same name. Hapa has always been influenced by the brand’s output and found it fitting to bring new life to the title. It has always been one of his favorite skate films because of how it ties together experimental filming and traditional skate videos. “I loved the sense of it being an art film rather than a traditional skate film divided into parts. It inspired me to create a piece of art that needs no form and can flow freely”. - Hapa
