If a year of house music fire from (takes deep breath…), Mirko Di Florio, Angel Heredia, Tyler Coey & Francesco Romano, K-Style & Pok, Juanito, Jay de Lys, Chris Main and Novodisc wasn't enough, the hottest summer in living memory now runs a fever with Clarisse's eight track scorcher scouring the world's premier party powers. Selecting only those that work with and have been supported and put on by the best in the business, Clarisse's extended 82nd odyssey is funky from first beat to last, swimming deep into supercharged breakdowns, trimmed with effects and fidgets leaving the dancefloor raw, a dose of hip-hop's can't stop-won't stop swag, and sticking to the dancefloor like skin to leather looking to crack a window. Ammo Avenue's 'Snake Charm' is first to get the club in a deep and funky cobra clutch, a ghostlike riff interacting with big throbbing chords to make the Peruvian powerhouse a major threat. In his position as 'Solar Warden', Rocco Careri gives all the cowbell you need in line with a bassline super soaker, dangerous countdowns and chopped up hip-hop samples guaranteeing things will never be the same, including a B-boy breakdown inducing chest bumps to the death. A major problem to speakers that aren't firmly secured, a full-on bassline bump from Future Lab's 'Dancing on Night' is topped with classic 80s-esque vocals and driving keys, Brazilian pair Guilherme Audi and Roger Campos providing a perfect taste of upfront retro. Going 'Head to Head', Germany's Martin OCCO and Italy's Andiction have the Clarisse playbook memorised to the letter, all chunkily funked out from a bottom end zipping around your hips, and rap lyrics aiming to separate the podium hoggers from the dancefloor curious. An audacious move next from DJ Face Off, 'Get Up' refitting Technotronic with new boosters and bubbles in a bid to slay dancefloors before the night is over – the original's riff insists on it. Catsinka are the pulse-quickening pair who've got the cream, the undeniable, instructional 'Dam Da Lee' all fun and foamy bottom end, and full of bells, whistles and alarms sounding off in the name of perpetual motion. Francis White shows that the 'Batler' did it: not one to drop that ghettoblaster as bass crashes past anything attempting to halt its progress, a quirky vocal snippet slapping its thigh en route to latching onto your brain will have you whistling while you work. Rounding things off, Marien Baker's 'Black Cat' gets lighters up and guarantees good luck, slathering itself in all of the above Clarisse elements like sunscreen to a cooking hot club.
