Sarah MacDonald and the Chapel Choir of Selwyn College, Cambridge, continue their exploration of new choral works in a recording showcasing the sacred works of Iain Quinn. This recording features a selection of anthems and motets using traditional texts, together with a Mass setting and a setting of the Evening Canticles. Also included are two major works for solo organ. Most of the items are first recordings.
Iain Quinn writes in a rich harmonic style which is immediately approachable. His works are designed to enhance choral worship, but are at the same time original and characterful, and are equally at home in concert settings.
Iain Quinn is a distinguished composer of sacred choral music and a solo organist with an extensive discography, including releases on Chandos, Naxos, and Regent (REGCD476). He is Assistant Professor of Organ and Coordinator of Sacred Music at The Florida State University.
Over the last few years the Chapel Choir of Selwyn College, Cambridge, and its director, Sarah MacDonald, have built an unequalled reputation in championing contemporary sacred choral music from young emerging composers, with debut discs of works from Philip Cooke, Ben Ponniah, Mark Gotham, and John Hosking. There have also been discs from more established composers in the field of church music, including Paul Spicer, Gary Higginson, and Alan Bullard. Future releases include disc of music by Stuart Turnbull, Paul Ayres, and Ben Parry.
