ich Zilg is a composer, guitarist, and recording engineer originally from New Jersey, United States, living in Seville, Spain. A longtime member of the folk/rock band Roadside Graves, as well as his own solo work with his wife Sandra Rubio in their band Hope, Star, and Browning, The Dolphin is Mr. Zilg's first new album of original songs in eight years. It is a departure from his work in the rock genre with Roadside Graves and Hope, Star and Browning, yet retains his unique songwriting style. The album is a journey through experimental sound, an exploration of what we love and how we show it to each other, and how the simplest pleasures in life are the most valuable. A collection of eleven electronic songs with ambient and experimental leanings culled from over three years of studio recording, The Dolphin was recorded and mixed in 2016 in his home studio in Seville and further sessions in the Pennsylvania mountains. Using mostly modular synthesiser, bass guitar, and outboard effect units, the vast majority of songs included were recorded live to multitrack with minimal overdubs. In addition, musicians Sandra Rubio, Michael Liska (both long-time members of Hope Star and Browning) perform on the record, as well as Jeremy Benson and Colin Ryan (Roadside Graves, 4A Stables.) It is a large change from his previous work, which was based upon acoustic guitar and traditional song forms.
