This collection, played on the magnificent organ of Bridlington Priory by David Pipe, draws together works written between 2006 and 2018. Short works (Hymn Preludes; Living Stones) intended as liturgical resources sit alongside more dramatic and extended recital pieces (Invocation & Dance; Partita Borealis) and showcase the full expressive range of Huw Morgans compositional style. He writes: While my inspirations are wide and varied plainsong, William Mathias, Bartok, modernism, ancient rituals and the drama of mysterious landscapes I have tried to create a body of work that is idiomatic, colourful, practical and useful to both liturgical organists and recitalists David Pipe, organist of Leeds Cathedral and an expert exponent of contemporary music, gives virtuosic performances that draw a breath-taking range of colour from the Bridlington instrument, whose wide palette of strings, fiery reeds and haunting flutes is a perfect marriage for this dramatic music.
