Without a single note from Clara Schumann, the Japanese pianist Sachi Nagaki formulates a 'homage to Clara Schumann' by playing music by Brahms, who played a role in the friendship of the two musicians, Johannes Brahms and Clara Schumann.
The program begins with the Fantasia op. 116, which Nagaki plays very imaginatively. The pianist shows her fine sensibility in the dress of the program, above all in the Bach-Chaconne and in theme and variations, an arrangement by Brahms of the second movement of his string sextet op. 18.
The Haydn Variations (in the solo version by Ludwig Stark) succeed Nagaki very well. It shows a safe technique and remarkable musical insights, which also allow so many personal ideas, without these would sound research or set up.
