Michael Shapiro - Archangel (2019)

Michael Shapiro's Archangel Concerto for Piano and Orchestra played by pianist Steven Beck and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales conducted by the composer portrays in two books, the war between the forces of good and evil (depicted in John Milton's Paradise Lost), and Adam and Eve (and the Serpent) in Eden. Archangel received its world premiere in Manhattan at the Church of the Holy Virgin performed by Jose Ramos Santana, pianist, New York Repertory Orchestra, David Leibowitz, conductor.

Other works include Roller Coaster (inspired by the great wooden amusement parks in Coney Island and Santa Cruz), originally premiered by the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music conducted by Marin Alsop, Widorama! (a Leopold Stokowski-inspired arrangement of the great Toccata for organ from Charles-Marie Widor's Fifth Symphony), and Perlimplinito, A Lace Paper Valentine, entr'acte music from Michael Shapiro's first opera, The Love of Don Perlimplin and Belisa in the Garden (libretto based on Federico Garcia Lorca play).
