Norman Connors - Saturday Night Special / You Are My Starship (1992) FLAC

Sequel reissued two of Connors' mid-'70s albums together for CD release in the early '90s. Both Saturday Night Special and You Are My Starship are decent albums that possess killer lineups. Each is a hodgepodge in every sense, from the style-hopping (heavy jazz-funk, blaring fusion, soul ballads) to the revolving all-star personnel (Herbie Hancock, Hubert Eaves III, Lee Ritenour, Gary Bartz). From a popularity standpoint, each album produced Top Ten hits for the black singles chart. "Valentine Love," a duet between Michael Henderson and Jean Carn, hit number ten; "You Are My Starship," sung by Henderson on his own, reached number four. ~ Andy Kellman
