This album of three and four movements Trios, quartets and scherzos for various instruments (transverse flutes, violins, and bassoon) along with basso-continuo consisting of violin, cello, harpsichord and flute are delightful. They are played so very well on "original instruments" by members of Parnassi Musici that plays beautifully with no harsh tones.
According to the notes that accompany this recording, Telemann wrote these "petite" trios in the early 1700s and because they were written to not be too long or difficult and to satisfy "the music buying public" he included instructions in the art of ornamentation thus the name `Tretti metodichi". The sherzi also are in three movements and were written to appeal to the" humoresque side" of the public. Whatever Telemann's intentions were, the music in this recording is most appealing.
