In the fall of 2016, Dan Valencia (lead guitar) posted a Facebook status, "Someone start a beach pop band with me." Mutual friend Lane Castleberry (vocals, guitar) responded, "I'm in."
Over the next few months, the duo wrote and recorded demos, establishing a framework of sound inspired by The Beach Boys and Phil Spectre's Wall of Sound, as well as musical storytelling from the likes of Andy Shauf and Jim Croce. The name Syntax Club was adopted in early 2017. In writing, arranging words and phrases to create the best sentence possible can be challenging. Similarly, Syntax Club aims to arrange their lyrics and song structures in a way that results in the best songs possible.
Syntax Club has opened for acts such as Sherwood, Motherfolk, Rookie of the Year, and Crosswalk 316. They've also played at the Norman Music Festival.
