Logan and Nathan - Chasing Tales (and a few other things) (2019)

We would like to thank Earth mostly, secondly some humans are also okay in our books. In exact order of importance here are those people. We would like to thanks all the musicians that played on our album and contributed to it, it means a lot to us. We made this album to dive into creation and invite the sound we hear in our minds on to tape, or protools. We didn't want to be limited by instrumentation or style. It took a few runs of trial and error, a batch of thrown out recordings, but we found a sound that runs through this album. Although, we've “found a sound” we feel this is only the beginning of our exploration, we've simply laid a foundation. Chasing Tales (and a few other things) is as much an adventure story as the title invites. The songs transition through time and space, they carry a similar atmosphere before falling off into other worlds. To us it feels like life, smooth transitions and drastic upsets. Listen for the tracks that were recorded together in time, and others, like Monarch Dragon, which dates back four years and was originally conceived as a demo for a grant we didn't get. But we injected new life into it, with Max laying down the drums, updating the vocals, and mix. There's also songs of play. Get a Little Dark was a chorus Logan had written, then one day, whilst at work, I (Nathan) made a beat based around the chord progression, sampling Max's drums from an early session. We spent a few ...wandering nights, jamming on the beat doing passes with a Juno Synth and bullet mic thrown through guitar pedals and a blues junior. (Side note, huge thanks to Jesse Thom for buying a Juno he couldn't pick up for a month and thus was left at our studio.) We chopped up a few passes, and had Blake MacKay do one pass of keys and sampled that as well. It turned out well enough for us to put it on the album, we'd never created like that before, and so much of this record is that, working with new musicians and allowing space for creation. We spent a lot of time, a year in total, not counting a few throw backs. We hope you enjoy this album, and we hope you will continue this creative journey with us.
