Dimitri Bashkirov, born 1931 in Tiflis, Georgia, has achieved international reknown first as pianist and then as piano instructor. Dimitri Bashkirov born 1931 in Tbilisi, Georgia, studied with Alexander Goldenweiser. In 1955 Dimitri Bashkirov won first prize at the Marguerite Long International Piano Competition in Paris. Performances with major European and American orchestras, such as Chicago Symphony, Royal Philharmonic, Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra under such conductors as Vladimir Ashkenazy, Daniel Barenboim, Zubin Mehta and Wolfgang Sawallisch. Representative of the old Russian piano school, year-long activity as professor and director of the piano conservatory Reina Sofía in Madrid, professor at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory and the International Piano Academy on Lake Como. Dimitri Bashkirov is a legendary pianist and educator. Among his students are his daughter Elena Bashkirova, Boris Bloch, Nicolai Demidenko, Jonathan Gilad and Arcadi Volodos.
In April 2012, while giving a master class in Berlin using a C. Bechstein B 212 grand piano, Dimitri Bashkirov said, “I love this grand and would like to take it with me in my hand luggage.” After the final concert, given on a C. Bechstein D 282, Bashkirov wrote in the artists’ guest book, “Thank you very much for the opportunity to present talented young pianists. The event reminded me of the concert I gave here on a Bechstein grand piano a few years ago. All my best wishes for success to Bechstein and to all those who contribute to the lustre of this prestigious name around the world.”
