Duo Froschhammer - Northern Lights (2019)

Active as an interpreter in European musical life, it was of great interest to the musicians and composers of Scandinavia in the 19th century to shape their own style and incorporate it into European music. This CD shows the folk music influenced styles of different regions of Sweden, Norway and Finland. In addition to a work by the Swedish violinist Tor Aulin we also find the Sonata for Violin and Piano No. 1 in F major by Edvard Grieg, followed by four miniatures by the composer Jean Sibelius. On the voyage of discovery of the traditional sounds of Nordic music, one almost inevitably comes to Nordic folk music, which inspired classical composers. The folk tunes were mostly interpreted by a group of string instruments and are now available in collections according to the traditional, mostly oral tradition. Fritz Froschhammer arranged in cooperation with the duo Froschhammer 2017 the versions for violin and piano on this CD. The Duo frog hammer, consisting of the siblings Julia and Felix Froschhammer (Primarius of the casalQuartett) was founded in 1998.
