The Hollering Pines - Moments in Between (2019)

Moments in Between, the third release by Salt Lake City’s the Hollering Pines, conjures a new sonic weather. With its layered atmospheres, uncommon rhythmic textures, and carefully crafted songs, the album expands upon the band’s previous work, drawing a line from the windswept soundscapes of Daniel Lanois to the openhearted, sometimes melancholy, melodicism of Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers and Bruce Springsteen. Mostly tracked live on the floor of June Audio (Provo, UT) with additional sessions at Orchard Studios (North Salt Lake, UT), Moments in Between was engineered and mixed by Scott Wiley (Elliot Smith, Bonnie Raitt), and features guest spots on pedal steel by Greg Leisz (Lucinda Williams, Robert Plant, Beck, Emmylou Harris) and Gary Morse (Jim Lauderdale, Dwight Yoakam). These are aromatic, ambient tunes, tanged by creosote and hardpacked ground taking flight; they rise from a desert straightaway where every pair of surprised headlights could be a spaceship or a marauding angel; where every last, lost hope is staked to some other last, lost hope.
