Alex Fournier - Triio (2019)

Premiere recording of my sextet featuring all original compositions. Everything's written episodically with opportunities for the band to freely improvise their way between episodes while still being a part of a greater composition.

Band bio: Triio is the flagship project of Toronto Bassist, Alex Fournier. Established in 2012, Triio has grown from a quartet featuring local Canadian composers and modern jazz to a sextet featuring long-form music composed by Alex, and focusing on free/collective improvisation within. Contrasting intricate written sections with open ended improvisation, the music can allow for total freedom of expression while still maintaining a distinct direction from piece to piece.
