Four works by contemporary American composer Michael Torke are presented by four different orchestras on this album, headlined by the Concerto for Orchestra performed by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Vasily Petrenko. The rhythmic syncopations of Bliss are explored and developed over more than 11 minutes to scintillating effect by the University of Kansas Wind Ensemble. Oracle, from the Quad City Symphony Orchestra, was composed and designed to be a concert opener, its raison d’etre proclaimed by its tonal textures. Finally Iphigenia, performed by the Camerata NY and written for the stage, brings out Baroque tendencies and influences in Torke’s compositions.
