Barrett Martin Group - Songs of the Firebird (2019)

Songs Of The Firebird is the 7th studio album from the Barrett Martin Group, the long-running world jazz ensemble that Barrett Martin (Screaming Trees, Mad Season) has led since 2004. This time around the band delivers its magnum opus, a 20 song double album of instrumental compositions, using musicians drawn from the best jazz players in Seattle and Senegal, West Africa, as well as special guests Kim Thayil (Soundgarden) and the jazz legend Wayne Horvitz. Songs Of The Firebird traverses the jazz realm with everything from hard swinging modern jazz combined with West African grooves, and experimental, ambient compositions. This is by far the most adventurous and realized album the Barrett Martin Group has ever recorded. There will be a sustained 3-4 month press and radio campaigning that will begin in April in anticipation of the May 10th release date. The BMG will also be playing select shows on the American west coast, and Barrett will be doing book readings as the opportunities present themselves.
