Christiane Karg is a German soprano. Raised in Feuchtwangen, Bavaria, Karg studied voice at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, where her principal teachers were Wolfgang Holzmair and Heiner Hopfner. She continued her studies at the Verona Conservatory of Music in Verona, Italy. She joined the International Opera Studio of the Hamburg State Opera, and later sang at the Frankfurt Opera. Among the roles she has performed are Mélisande in Debussy's Pelléas et Mélisande and Sophie in Strauss' Der Rosenkavalier. In 2006, she made her first appearance at the Salzburg Festival, and she has frequently performed at the Theater an die Wien, the Bayerische Staatsoper Munich, the Komische Oper Berlin, the Dresden Semperoper, the Royal Opera at Covent Garden, the Opera de Lille, and Teatro alla Scala. Karg has performed with Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Daniel Harding, Mariss Jansons, Christian Thielemann, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Jonathan Nott, Andrés Orozco-Estrada, and many other prominent conductors of opera and concert music. Karg has given recitals at Carnegie Hall's Weill Hall, the Vienna Konzerthaus, the Schubertiade Festival in Schwarzenberg, and Wigmore Hall, among other venues. She has recorded for Wigmore Hall Live, Deutsche Grammophon, Oehms Classics, and Berlin Classics.
