Craig Clark's forthcoming debut album, Sometimes Bewilder, is one concerned with the condition of travelling, and indebted to the memories of conversations with strangers encountered in far flung places.
Having built a reputation as an engaging performer and insightful songwriter in his native North East over the last fifteen years, sharing a stage with Laura Marling, Kathryn Williams, Willard Grant Conspiracy and The Lake Poets amongst others, it is this recent foray into solo travelling which has informed and elevated his latest work.
"A lot of the lyrics come from the people I meet when travelling. There's a strange intensity to the human connections you make when travelling alone; it's as if people are more willing to reveal intimate details about themselves safe in the knowledge that the journey - the moment - is fleeting. Once you arrive at your destination, it's over."
This feeling is something that has been consciously incorporated into the process of recording his latest album Sometimes Bewilder - working with producers Chris McManus (Blank Studios) and John Egdell (Caw Records) and a small group of talented musicians, Craig is creating something equally intense and intimate in the studio.
