João Vasco - 2016 (2019)

“2016” is the name of the multimedia concert with original music for piano, violin and cello by João Vasco, a pianist with a career of more than 20 years, having played in dozens of countries of four continents.

His influences include composers from Baroque to contemporary music, but mostly the Japanese musician and composer Ryuichi Sakamoto,in particular his album “1996”.

Apart from Sakamoto he was inspired by specific pieces composed by Schubert, Chopin, Stravinsky, Schnitke and Ligeti, minimalists like Steve Reich and Philip Glass and also two Portuguese composers, Carrapatoso and Sassetti.

João Vasco is also a videographer/ filmmaker with awarded short films in national and international festivals, screened in countries of five continents. In harmony with the cinematographic spirit in “2016”´s music, João Vasco created videos that will be projected on stage, along with the musical performance.

Besides the pianist and composer João Vasco, “2016” brings together Pedro Lopes (violin) and Fernando Costa (cello), young musicians with national and international careers.
