Dr Harp's Medicine Band - Hearts and Minds (2019)

This collection of songs is both very public and private, from hearts and minds. Lady Nade’s songs are hard to forget, telling us of minds made up, and minds in need of a kiss. Life is complicated, Hearts and minds, blues, body and soul, are intertwined. Dr Johnny says ‘many of the songs on this album reflect problems of mind and heart and sing of shared and painful experience. The blues has always been cathartic music- If you can express your pain you will not be overcome by it.‘ ‘Sunny‘, a joyous song celebrating great love was written by Bobby Hebb at a time of intense personal grief. ‘Unchain my heart’ was written by a tragic drug user and made famous by Ray Charles; ‘Back to black’ cries out a drug-crazed doomed relationship. ‘Lean on me’ is a plea for support, help, care- an anthem for better public mental health. Nade says “I enjoy writing and singing songs that nourish the body and soul. 'Hearts and Minds’ is a collaborative album lovingly crafted for my friends, family and fans who share my passion and enthusiasm. Music has been a great tool for helping me connect and help people express themselves. My music has been used to support women recovering from breast cancer, children suffering from life threatening illnesses as well as people with dementia, something which has already helped me a great deal personally.’
