Centre Source Records look to their own backyard for their sixth release, to showcase the most recent output from live electronic duo, Penelope Two-Five. The Tall Order MINI LP sees the Brisbane-based pair explore the realms of revivalist breaks and house, while maintaining their dusty analogue orientation.
Like It Should is a wistful opener; Cam's jazz-tinged vocals floating along minor keys. Psyche takes the listener to the basement of a UK warehouse in the mid-90s, where silky vocals and blissful drum breaks cascade into a stomping acid breakdown.
The flipside steps distinctly into Chicago deep house territory as Workout grooves along a buoyant bassline. With it's delicate percussion, Hush is a soft and subtle take on lo-fo, while the bleepy, breakbeat-inclined Rude A Lude transcends into dreamy, soaring pads.
Early Morning State features soft piano jabs and builds with sparking, loved-up synths to reach a euphoric, hands-in-the-air close,w hile Trip takes you to the last hours pre-sunrise at a warehouse rave; a heavy kick drum is softened through heavy reverb and hazy vocals.
