Home was created in London in 1970 by guitarist Larry Weissfield (hereinafter Wishbone Ash), bassist Cliff Williams (hereafter AC / DC), vocalist Mick Stubs, keyboardist Clive John (hereafter Man) and drummer Mick Kok (hereafter The Groundhogs). Direction - progressive rock with blues influences. The progressive orientation of the group in hard and soft rock gave them the opportunity to sign
contract with Epic Records. Cliff Williams was born on December 14, 1949 in Romford (Essex), England. At the age of 13, he was already strumming an improvised guitar made by his father, who played the piano in an army band. When he was 9 years old, he moved with his family to Liverpool. After leaving school at the age of 16, Cliff got a job at a local factory. Williams started playing bass at the age of 14, the first bass guitar was the Woolworth P-Bass model. He studied by playing the records of the Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and Ray Cooder (Ry Cooder). Clif moves to London and unsuccessfully plays with Jason Eddie and his Rock and Roll Show. Not the name of the money, he is homeless over the head, and sleeps on the street in a cardboard box. One of Clif's first non-professional groups is the blues Delroy / Williams Soul Show. In addition to playing in this group, Cliff worked in a supermarket, in the hardware store, and at one time he even worked on demolishing houses. In May 1970, he advertised in the music newspaper Melody Maker and associated with guitarist Larry Wisefield (Larry Wisefield, in 1974 joined Wishbone Ash). When their first band Sugar falls apart, along with vocalist Mick Stubbs, keyboard player Clive John (Clive John, he later joined the Welsh rockers Man) and drummer Mick Kok (fame with The Groundhogs blues), they form the group Home. Direction - progressive rock with blues influences. The progressive orientation of the group in hard and soft rock gave them the opportunity to sign a contract with Epic Records and in April 1971 (in February 1972 in the USA) their debut album, Pause For A Hoarse Horse, was released. In November 1971, Home played in the first division with Led Zeppelin at the Wembley Empire Pool stadium at the second concert of the Electrical Magic tour. Home also toured with bands like Argent, The Faces and Jeff Beck's team. In 1972, Jim Anderson replaces Clive John and Home with the self-titled album, with his first and only hit Dreamer (Dreamer), the record was released in September 1972. This album (like the single Dreamer) falls into 41 seats in the English album chart. This work also receives great reviews and support from BBC radio DJs John Peel and Bob Harris. In the end, 10,000 copies of this album were sold in England, and the band toured and played with Mott The Hoople. At the end of July 1973, the concept album The Alchemist (“The Alchemist”) was released, but it looks like by this time the band is getting off from his course, and when, in March 1974, the scandalous folk troubadour Al Stewart (Al Steward) invites them to support him on their first American tours in May and June, Mick Stubbs decides to start a solo career, and the rest of the musicians are renamed The Al Steward Band. Williams stays in america and forms fast about the broken up Stars group, then works as a session musician.
