LOUISA CROSSING is the inaugural effort of Virginia singer-songwriter Steve Harris. To be sure, the tunes have at their core that familiar country vibe with plenty of guitar, steel, keyboard, fiddle and drums. But listen for the unique sounds - of horns, of chimes and even a bass harmonica. And while the stylistic foundation for much of the music is classic country, this album will take you into another musical dimension. There are elements of jazz, folk, gospel, pop. No matter the variations in style, the music is Americana at its best.
Then there are the lyrics. All original, many tell classic country tales – of love won and lost, of love of country. Beyond traditional country themes, several of the songs draw on Steve’s experiences working in the Japanese culture.
The initial tracks for this album were laid down in May 2018 over a marathon four-day session at White Star Sound in Louisa County, Virginia. The beautiful, rolling countryside provided incremental inspiration, to be sure. But the title of the album is about more than geography. It’s about crossing into another chapter of life. This album reflects both dimensions.
