The Unity Band - Fabric (2019)

The Unity Band is comprised of current and past students from the South African College of Music. They are all in their own right phenomenal performers doing great things across the globe. The band members include the founder Lumanyano Mzi on the drumkit, Ofentse Moshwetsi on alto saxophone, Stephen de Souza on bass, Thandeka Dladla on vocals, Lonwabo Diba Mafani on piano, Lilavan Gangen on percussion, Dylan Fine on guitar and Marco Maritz on trumpet.

This group of young talented musicians discovered their musical bond in 2017 while jamming as a collective for the first time at the University of Cape Town. They have gone on to perform at various sold-out venues throughout South Africa and have created a rich and diverse soundtrack for the modern music lover. This debut album entitled Fabric was recorded at the renowned Milestone Studios by engineer Jethro Harris. The album art was created by two very talented artists; renowned South African visual artist, Giggs Kgole and incredible/ equally talented graphic designer Romy Brauteseth.

The album pays homage to the cultural diversity of South Africa and the various musical influences that these young musicians have encountered throughout their musical upbringings. The band’s sound has been described as a joyful celebration and reflection on an evergrowing continent. Expect to be taken on a scenic journey as the music weaves a tapestry of what was and what could be.
