Steve Reid - Soul Jazz Records Presents Steve Reid: Nova (2019)

Steve Reid lived a life. The teenager who started his career drumming for Motown subsequently grew up to play with an enviable list of heavyweights - Fela Kuti, James Brown, Miles Davis, and in his later life Four Tet are just a handful of those Reid made music with. His 1976 LP Nova was cut with the help of Reid’s band The Legendary Master Brotherhood. It’s a superb piece of 1970’s fusion-funk, one rooted in post-bop and funk that also incorporates everything from dub to spiritual jazz. Now the record is being reissued by the ever-reliable Soul Jazz.
