Saxxon is taking no breaks after his recent album on Liondub and he's back on V Recordings with the Fifth Elements EP. This release perfectly blends soul with dirt, exemplified by tune #1 'Here To Play', which begins in lighter territory but switches into a powerful, thursting bassline that just rolls, rolls and rolls some more. 'One For Me' is even funkier and more fluid on the intro, a soulful sample rising above the drums before darkness pushes out from the drop and hits you in the chest - this tune doesn't break down and rightly so. 'Hurricanes' lies in more vocal-led territory thanks to Wednesday Amelia, who sounds beautiful above its bouncing, squelchy back end. The opening strings and piano on 'Love Note' are a statement of intent for a tune that quickly evolves into a dichotomous riot between light and dark, with a bassline that's eccentric but just doesn't care. The EP finishes on 'System', an uncompromising tune that ties up perfectly a classic V Recordings release.
