Izabella Effenberg - Crystal Silence - Music for Array Mbira (2019)

Izabella is one of the very few female vibrafonists in Europe and the rst from Poland. She
organizes a festival for Vibraphone and other seldom heard instruments in the Nuernberg
area since 2014. She receives the cultural prize of the city of Nürnberg in 2018. She presents
the very rare instrument Array Mbira on her new CD Crystal silence - Music for Array
Mbira. She recorded this instrument for the rst time on 2 bonus tracks of her CD IZA
(2016). All the compositions come from Izabella exept one and they are small miniatures in
which she is searching for her own destinctive sound on the mbira. The music connects
world music, jazz, classical sounds and beyond, improvisation and arranged parts. The
array mbira is a hand crafted modern musical instrument with a unique harp- or bell-like
sound. It is made in the USA by Bill Wesley and Patrick Hadley in San Diego, California.It is a
radical redesign of the african mbira and is part of the lamellaphone family.
