The arias on this CD are a selection that might well have been performed in a concertante setting in Bach's own lifetime. The individual arias are released from the musical and theological corset of the cantatas, freeing them for concert performance. To quote Daniel Behle: 'Once again, we see that Bach's music can be performed in the concert hall without completely separating it from its original sacred context. One simply needs to think carefully about how to regroup the works.'
