The CHECKERBOARD BLUES BAND is Switzerland's most successful blues band - playing for Johnny Copeland, Louisiana Red, Memphis Slim, Buddy Guy and Junior Wells. 3rd place in the Swiss Top 20.
The Checkerboard Blues Band was founded in 1987 by singer and guitarist Philipp Fankhauser (born 1964) and Michele Porto (bass) in Thun. The band gave concerts in half of Europe and even played in 1990 with Katie Webster. In 1994, chief guitarist Fankhauser went to the US and went there with Johnny Copeland on tour. He then went on a tour with 120 appearances with Copeland's band The Texas Blues Machine and released his solo album ON BROADWAY in 1995, recorded with the L. A. Blues Band and the Memphis Horns in the USA. Today Fankhauser lives in San Diego, California.
