Roberto A. Jackson, blues expert from Arizona, wrote in his review of his predecessor album "Diversified": "The GProject Blues Band respects the Blues - and it shows it too". Thus, the band from Southern Bavaria has earned the respect of blues fans of all ages. Teens come with and without their parents to the concerts of the GProject Blues Band.
With their new and at the same time third studio album four blues musicians from three nations show special respect for Howlin 'Wolf, Elmore James and other teachers from the Southside of Chicago and the Mississippi Delta. Always coveted by all Electric Boogie bands, "Got My Mojo Working" becomes a respectful and atmospheric homage to R & B godfather Muddy Waters. The Junior Wells classic "Messin 'With The Kid" also undergoes a rejuvenation on this album. The ten remaining songs on "When I'm Gone" were written by the GProject Blues Band - no frills, intense and with a lot of reverence to their sources of inspiration.
The dramaturgically perfectly styled album also sounds out all the possibilities of a current blues band. Losgeh blues rock for the dance legs ("Take Care of Me") alternates with a thoughtful ballad mood ("I'm Done"). Real music from real people, free of electronics and always with the space for a perfectly fitting guitar solo - sometimes on the bluesy whimpering slide guitar, sometimes on the crisp formulating electric guitar.
As a live act, the GProject Blues Band is a fixture not only in the Munich club scene. From the Bamberger Blues & Jazz Festival to the International Jazz Days Burghausen, the palette of locations for Thomas "TomBo" Ott (drums), keyboard virtuoso Michael "Staudi" Staudenmeyer, US-original James "Jamie" Ransom (bass) and the Australian guitarist with Greek roots Leonidas "Leo" Kyriakakos.
With "When I'm Gone", the GProject Blues Band finally gets the deserved respect alongside prominent European blues projects.
