The Amigos del Mar Coral Group is a chorus of serious voices that was founded in February 1987 in the Fishing District of Santander under the baton of Basilio Gomarín. Since 1991 the choir is directed by José Ramón Rioz Ruiz.
Their repertoire is based on the marine music: habaneras, barcarolas and songs of sailors, giving priority to the songs of Cantabrian authors: Lucio Mediavilla, Alfonso Ruiz Martínez, Guerrero Urreisti, M. Samperio, B. Gomarín. Spanish popular music is present in their concerts: "Negra sombra", "El cant dels ocells", "Aurtxoa seaskan". Likewise, they perform works of polyphony of classical authors: Palestrina, Mozart, Verdi, Beethoven, Schubert.
The Coral Agrupación Amigos del Mar tutered the children's choir "MARIS STELLA" of the Bº Pesquero (1992-1996), founded and directed by the choral director, J. Ramón Rioz.
Among the numerous concerts and trips made, it is worth highlighting the one offered in the German town of Seligenstadt (1997), which was part of a cultural exchange with the Männerchor der Harmonie. Other choral exchanges have been carried out with the Orfeón de Albacete (1999) and the Choir "Ventos do Val" of Mos (Pontevedra, 2005).
This renowned choir of male voices from the Barrio Pesquero represented Santander at the Universal Exposition of Seville (1992). He has performed at the Trade Fair of Valladolid, "Encuentro de Canción Marinera" in Portugalete (organized by the Nautical Schools of the North of Spain) (2005). Concerts in Bilbao, Logroño, Pontevedra, Albacete, Baracaldo, Avilés, Gijón, Llanes, Cudillero, etc.
In May 2009 they participated in the International Choral Music Festival of Gerzat (France).
They have performed in the main musical centers of Santander: Palace of Festivals of Santander, concert hall of Caja Cantabria, Palace of Congresses, Palace of La Magdalena, Auditorium, concert hall of the ONCE.
