James Holden supplies the emotive synth score to ‘Cambodian Spring’, a forthcoming documentary about politics in the titular SE Asian country, directed by Chris Kelly
Working predominantly with the legendary Prophet 600 synthesiser, and also using a Hammond Organ that died during the production sessions, Holden wields a mighty array of pieces that hardly betray the fact this is only his first film score.
Full of Holden’s signature spiralling structures, bittersweet tones and euphoric lifts, the results patently weigh up to a strong album in their own right, although we really want to hear them in context now. Film’s out 17th May apparently.
