Before joining Galaxy-Lin, most band members had already been part of other prominent bands. Robbie van Leeuwen had the first place in the American hit parade with his previous band Shocking Blue with the song Venus written by him. Rudy Benett and Robbie van Leeuwen had performed the Ricochets in 1964 with their band at the time in the support program for Rolling Stones at the Kurhaus in Scheveningen. Later they scored two hits with the Motions (Wasted words and Why do not take it). Dick Remelink, the saxophonist and flutist, came from Ekseption, bassist Peter Wassenaar came from the hard rock band Blue Planet, keyboardist Skip van Rooy had played in The Buffoons. The other members of Galaxy-Lin were drummer Peter Rijnvis and the mandolin players Hugo van Haastert and Hans van Vos.
The band performed during the Popgala in Voorburg in March 1973, which was partly broadcast by the VARA. At this festival played foreign artists such as the Eagles, Rory Gallagher, the Faces and the Who and Nederpop acts such as Golden Earring, Brainbox and Earth & Fire.
Galaxy-Lin has released two albums. The first record was released in 1974 and has the same name as the band. The single Traveling song / Utopia appeared on that album. All songs on this album were written by Robbie van Leeuwen. He also wrote the songs from the second album G, except Hunting song, written by the British folk rock band Pentangle. Two singles of this album have appeared, Long hot summer / Utopia and Hunting song / Do not. The single Long hot summer came at number sixteen in the Dutch hit parade. All records were produced by Robbie van Leeuwen in collaboration with sound engineer John Sonnevelt. Both albums contain both vocal and instrumental songs. The B-side of G contains two long instrumental tracks, Bizarre and Ode to the highways. Both albums were re-released in 2013 as a double-album.
The band was dissolved in 1976. Rudy Bennet continued with Bea Willemstein as the duo Bennett and Bee, Robbie van Leeuwen started his new project Mistral and Skip van Rooij went to The Buffoons. The other former band members also joined a new band or continued as a soloist.
