This is the first in a three-part series from Nublu founder and band leader Ilhan Ersahin's Wax Poetic project. On this record, there's a subdued Northern European energy creeping through the rocky, Garbage-esque tracks. This series will take Ersahin to different countries to collaborate with its musicians. Next up is "Wax Poetic Istanbul", followed by "Wax Poetic Brasil".
Ilhan Ersahin is the mastermind behind Nublu--the East Village nightclub and record label that features a buffet of electronica-jazz-world-improv acts. Wax Poetic is a floating musical project that takes him to other parts of the world to record with local musicians. Here, he hooks up with vocalist Marla Turner and a trio of Danish musicians who perform songs from the more rock-sounding end of Ersahin's spectrum. Electronica touches abound, and Turner's vocals occasionally slip off into Bjork-like squawks, but for the most part the songs are straight-ahead pop-rockers. COPENHAGEN is the first in a trilogy of releases that include ISTANBUL and BRAZIL
