Only a few pieces by Giovanni Salvatore have been recorded. This release bears witness to the unbelievable artistic atmosphere that prevailed in Naples in the middle of the 17th century and which was significantly influenced by Giovanni Salvatore, and makes clear the importance of this Neapolitan keyboard virtuoso. In addition to expressive toccatas and canzones, there are also verses from three Masses that are performed alternately between organ and choral choir. On two very well restored original instruments, Fabio Vonizzoni brings not only his modernity and self-confidence, but also an almost ideal balance of passionate freedom and formality. This integration of apparent opposites makes the appeal and quality of this music a fascinating link between Frescobaldi and the next generation.
