Included in this album are never released before live performances of the young Bream from the Aldeburgh Festivals of 1958 and 1959, playing the lute and the guitar in solo works, in songs with tenor Peter Pears, and in chamber combinations with Aurèle Nicolet (flute) and George Malcolm (harpsichord). Virtuosic classical guitarist and lutenist Julian Bream was born in 1933 in England. One of the most distinguished guitarists of the 20th century, he played an important role in improving the public perception of the classical guitar as a respectable instrument. Throughout his career he has been awarded numerous awards, and has had many pieces dedicated to him.
