Yamaoka - Selected Works: Fragmentary Memories (2018)

ndigo aera is proud to release a truly special project from Japan's Yamoaka.

Yamoaka was originally formed by renowned Japanese duo Kenichi Oka and Yoshinori Yamazaki, until 2007 when the project was continued solo by Kenichi Oka.

Kenichi strictly uses hardware and creates unique loop based bleep sounds which draws resemblances with minimalist Steve Reich but also blending in a techno-esque touch comparable to Terrence Dixon's Population one. Kenichi has a fixed forward style of working: all tracks are made with hardware live in real time, without use of computers, only controlled by the Roland MC50 as a sequencer. Kenichi achieves a live feel to all his work, recording his tracks in real time without the use of DAW's or computers, instead utilising his Roland MC50 sequencer with perfect effect.

As long time fans of Kenichi's 'under the radar' work, Indigo aera bosses Jasper and Maarten approached him to release a retrospective selection of his works for the first time on vinyl. The result is a collection of hand picked tracks previously released on CD-only plus 4 completely new and unheard.

The double 12" is also a follow-up to the 2x12" Indigo mini album series which featured tracks from Louis Haiman and Kirk Degiorgio. Similarly, this release is highly limited to 298 copies only and released on vinyl only.
