Marie-Luise and Christoph Dingler have been playing the violin since the age of seven - and although both of them were very successful as soloists at "Jugend musiziert" early on, the siblings love to play together. In the meantime, the young musicians have studied with Professor Dora Bratchkova at the Musikhochschule Mannheim; Christoph Dingler is concertmaster with the Mannheim Philharmonic.
Works for two violins are richly planted in older literature. Almost every well-known violinist has previously written works that he could play together with his students.
In modern times, however, this tradition has obviously fallen asleep. To broaden the contemporary repertoire for violin duo, Marie-Luise and Christoph Dingler launched the 2009 Crossover Composition Award (CCA). Every three years, the international competition calls for new works for two violins. About the awarding decides - after a preselection - the audience; the composer remains anonymous until the prize is awarded.
More than a hundred composers from 16 countries participated in the first round of the competition. "The cast of violin duo is much more than you initially believe," enthuses Tina Ternes, for example, who won the second prize with her play Windspiel, "it really pays to write for it and the experience, his play by the siblings Dingler It's unforgotten for me to play. "
The two young violinists play harmoniously together. They play as if from one thought and have audible pleasure in the ideas of the composers who have submitted very different works. This CD presents the winners. Wind chimes, for example, are very melancholic, and at the same time very melodic with their polyphonic passages. Pas de deux by Dorothea Mader surprises with amazing harmonic twists. How film music works on the highway of Benedikt Brydern; the composer and violinist won the first prize. Aleksey Igudesman, winner of the third prize, created colorful, modern and at the same time one-of-a-kind works with Fever of passion and Peesh moosh.
The other award winners also offer many interesting ideas. All in all, the competition should have given the Mannheim violin duo a lot of exciting music, which they can present in their concerts. The audience will be pleased - and we hope that in 2012 there will be a CCA again.
