Macheteoxidado - Canyon Sequence (2018)

The reference to places and naturalistic contexts constitutes a characterizing element of the wide environmental scenarios created by Matthew Hellmich under the alias Macheteoxidado. Three years later, the ethereal gusts of "Viento de las Montañas" are again impalpable currents to fill the fifty minutes of "Canyon Sequence".
Broken down into nine movements, the work faithfully reflects the suggestion evoked by the title, unfolding with dusty slowness through echoes and electro-acoustic resonances floating in mid-air, to the point of describing a sequence of prolonged stillness and serenity. As in a meditative experience, the songs of "Canyon Sequence", embellished with guitar arpeggios, clarinet inserts and occasional percussions, appear to be fully interpenetrated with the physical and sound landscapes to which they are inspired, united by an approach of limpid, lasting naturalness.
