Roberto Vecchioni - L'Infinito (2018)

"I am a man of the '900," said Roberto Vecchioni a few days ago at the presentation of this album: one of the great merits of the "professor" is not to pretend to be something that is not, and to do (well) only that that knows how to do. So this is a record deliberately of other times, a man of the '900 precisely. "Not twelve songs, but only one long song divided into twelve moments", the notes are spurious and, moreover, the album will only come out in physical format, no digital "In contrast to the consumer" decontextualized and quick of the songs ".

The news is that the professor has brought back to sing Guccini, in the single "I will teach you to fly (Alex)": journalists were invited to the press conference of a record announced almost surprisingly, with the promise of a news on which, however, further indications were given, and on which absolutely nothing was leaked (this too, something of other times). The song starts, and the second line, here it is, the vocation: we all felt a shiver, and even more moving was the story of the meeting between the two and how the song was born, an incitation to become masters of own destiny (with quote and dedication to Alex Zanardi).

But the record does not end there, on the contrary. We admit it, when they told us that Vecchioni would make an announcement, we thought he wanted to retire, as did other colleagues. Instead, Vecchioni has no intention of pulling back, but rather raises again. The 12 songs are pure Vecchioni: there is the nostalgia of "Formidable those years" (which recalls a famous book by Mario Capanna), but there is the future of "Go boy". There is the political anger of several passages and also of "Giulio", dedicated to Regeni. There is the love of "But you", the literary references of "A night, a traveler" (Italo Calvino) and there is love for the "Word", an elegua on the language, "Fellini's finalino is put there to say that hope does not die. "There is the autobiography of" How Long is the Night "(with Morgan).

Vecchioni explains that "Infinity is only partly an autobiographical record, inside are moving other real men and women, sometimes told, sometimes told in their extraordinary love for what you live" and the thematic unity given also from the musical production, curated by Lucio Fabbri with musicians Massimo Germini, Marco Mangelli and Roberto Gualdi. Even musically "L'infinito" is an impeccable record, and of other times.
