Evil Hunter - Evil Hunter (2018)

The debut album ‘Evil Hunter’ contains eight songs of the old school's excellent Heavy Metal - powerful, melodic and memorable. Musically, this is a cross between a tribute and a certain guide to Heavy Metal, from Dio and Accept to Diamond Head and Merciful Fate (the vocals of Damián Chicano, by the way, remind Herr Dirkschneider, only slightly lower). And although there are familiar moves in the album, which will be painfully predictable, the band’s music cannot be called plagiarism.

At times, Evil Hunter goes into Power Metal (“Heartbeat”, “Open Your Eyes”), but this is by no means a minus, on the contrary. Fast tempo, melodic solos and loud rhythm section with an energetic pitch of the drums do an excellent job, making you shake your head or at least twitch to the beat with your limbs.

And, of course, there is a ballad in the album - sugary “By Your Side”, close to Glam Metal, and it sounds no worse than the famous hits of Skid Row and others. In general, 100% oldtimer.

On the one hand, he would have been ‘Evil Hunter’ released 30 years earlier - he would have pushed many people from the metal Olympus. And on the other hand, without these inhabitants of Olympus, this album would not exist. So it remains only to listen, rejoice and quietly indulge in nostalgia, remembering that the grass used to be greener, alcohol is stronger, girls are more beautiful, and music is better (although this is far from true, of course).
