Our story:
We met by chance one night in 2009 during a folk festival in Copenhagen. Ale and Rune were standing in the corner of a pub jamming some folk tunes. Nikolaj just came in, sat at the piano and began to play along. The three of us ended up playing together all through the night.
Since then we have been working hard, traveling around, playing tons of concerts and the support has been amazing. We are on an exciting journey and we are looking forward to meet all of you in your neighborhood, wherever it might be.

Six months after we met, Rune held his debut concert at the Royal Danish Academy of Music, where we had some fun with Mozart’s ‘5th Violin Concerto’.
In 2011, a dream came true when we were invited to perform our own music in a series of seven concerts together with Copenhagen Phil. This was also our first collaboration with the rock musician, writer and critic, Kristian Leth, who served as artistic director for the project.
We released our first album, ‘A Little Symphony’ in June 2013. 13 of our own compositions recorded with special guests: the elite Danish String Quartet; 13-piece brass band European Travelling Brass Carnival and Indian bansuri master Rishab Prasanna. At the Danish Folk Music Awards 2013 we were awarded ‘Talent of the Year’, ‘Album of the Year’ and ‘Artist of the Year’ (Ale Carr) – also nominations for ‘Composer of the Year’ for Nikolaj and Ale.
In 2013 we were invited to perform at the Sydney Opera House by the Danish Crown Prince Couple where Rune was awarded their prestigious ‘Rising Star Award’.
2014 was the year of collaboration and exploration, with all sorts of projects at home and abroad. We had a blast at Tønder Festival, and started our X-mas concert tradition in Copenhagen.
2015 was a very intense year for us, with a lot of concerts with DSQ, as well as a project with the Polish Orchestra Sinfonia Iuventus. We released another album, Second Movement, and had a childhood dream come true with our performance at Roskilde Festival. With a unique collaboration between three theaters we created and performed the theater concert CARL, together with DSQ, to celebrate the great Danish composer Carl Nielsen for his 150 years anniversary. In November we were awarded with two Danish Music Awards for Second Movement, Folk Album of the Year and Folk Composer of the Year (Ale).
In 2016 we had a good number of concerts in Europe, with projects together with Väsen, Lau and Selene Muñoz, as well as our first concerts outside of Europe. We traveled to Edmonton Folk Festival and has a fantastic time in Japan at the end of the year.
The future brings more collaborations, projects and adventures, to be continued…..
Dreamers’ Circus & Danish String Quartet
Danish String Quartet are at the forefront Denmark’s elite classical ensembles. Rune is a member, along with childhood friends and fellow virtuosos Asbjørn Nørgaard, viola, Fredrik Schøyen Sjölin, cello and Frederik Øland, violin.
We played our first concert with Danish String Quartet in the concert hall of the National Library of Denmark in 2011, mixing our two very different genres: interpreting classical and traditional folk tunes, and composing new works. These days we have officially joined forces to explore our individual differences and create a united sound. Check out DSQ’s albums ‘Wood Works‘ and ‘Last Leaf‘, where they present nordic trad. tunes arranged for string quartet.
