De:fine amour is the Motto under which the Hamburg Ensemble "Trobar e Cantar" regards the courtly love of the Middle Ages, which did not always float "high above the clouds," as conventional wisdom leads us to believe: Anonymous songs and dances from famous Codices from the 13th and 14th century combine with the lyric torrents of Guillaume de Machaut, Jehan de Lescurel and Juan del Encina to form a diverse "Definition of love" in all its joyful and painful varieties: from eternal faithfulness to the loss of a once loved woman with its loneliness and solitude.
