Anne Nikitin is an award-winning Canadian composer based in the UK. From sweeping orchestral scores to dirty guitars, mesmeric synths and delicate piano refrains, Anne is known for creating unique sound worlds spanning a wide range of genres.
Her debut into film came when she scored Bart Layton’s “jaw-dropping” BAFTA-winning film The Imposter. The Guardian described her work as “a classy score”, while Indiewire dubbed it “a cosmic score”.
She recently scored Layton’s critically-acclaimed heist movie American Animals starring Evan Peters, Barry Keoghan and Ann Dowd, which was released in the US and will have its UK premiere at this year’s Film 4 Summer Screen at Somerset House.
She also scored Matt Palmer’s hit film Calibre, a dark thriller starring Jack Lowden and Martin McCann, which won Best British Film at this year’s Edinburgh Film Festival and is now on Netflix. The film was hailed by Stephen King as “a genuine nail biter… a Hitchcock vibe with a little bit of The Wicker Man thrown in”. The music was described by The Quietus as "a pleasantly paralysing experience” and by Soundtrack Dreams as “a textural score that manages to evoke the fear and isolation that define this story”.
Last year, Anne worked with the London Contemporary Orchestra on the music for artist Damien Hirst’s colossal exhibition in Venice and accompanying feature film Treasures From the Wreck of the Unbelievable, now on Netflix.
Other recent credits include One Deadly Weekend in America for BBC, which was nominated for a BAFTA, and This Beautiful Fantastic, a modern-day fairytale starring Jessica Brown Findlay, Tom Wilkinson and Andrew Scott, which was nominated for a MUSIC+SOUND AWARD as well as a HOLLYWOOD MUSIC IN MEDIA AWARD.
Anne enjoys writing in a variety of styles but has an affinity for dark, moody, atmospheric music, growing up on heavy doses of bands such as The Cure, Sonic Youth, and Radiohead, and artists ranging from Bjork, Arvo Part and Steve Reich, to contemporary composers such as Morton Feldman, György Ligeti and Iannis Xenakis. Her music has been described as 'a beautiful eclectic mix of strings, guitars, percussion and sweeping orchestral arrangements – its own unique sound'.
