Two classic albums from Jack Jones, making their long awaited debut on CD. Booklet features original artwork, designed so that purchaser may display either original album cover as front of CD, plus detailed sleeve notes. Digitally transferred from the original American master tapes. Grammy award winner for Best Performance by a Male Singer (Lollipops and Roses) and Record of the Year (Wives and Lovers) Grammy nominee (The Impossible Dream).

Jack Jones always had a beautiful voice and a handsome face. On some of his early efforts for KAPP Records he is indistinguishable from Vic Damone, John Gary or any one of the other boy singers. Pretty but nothing too deep. On these two albums from 1967, his last for KAPP before his great mostly self produced albums for RCA, Jack is in fine form, personalising each song with his supple and flexible voice, using his range to experiement. Arrangements by RALPH CARMICHAEL and MARTY PAICH are outstanding; elaborate puzzles around the song or the melody broken and reassembled into complex, tiny symphonies. They are not gruesome or syrupy but interesting embellishment that clearly encouraged Jack to reach out of his father's shadow and develop beyond the family business.
1967 was a rough time for most non-rock singers. Even Sarah Vaughan had just begun a five year period without any recording contract. That JACK JONES would keep pushing despite getting no respect, despite being thought hopelessly square, push on to make so many works of great beauty is a gift to us now. These two albums have been out of print for decades. I encourage you to buy this pressing from Zone Records Ltd. as soon as you can. I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I do.
